Select Your Genre Blog Post
I think my favorite genre is comedy. Comedies provide an escape from life since they're all about laughter and feeling good afterwards, and also they can be very relatable with their characters within their films. When it comes to comedies, despite this being more of a cult film, I would like to emulate Clerks by Kevin Smith. It provides a look at a day in the life of these two guys who are friends and work together. It's just a normal day involving normal people.

Reverse Engineering
We had to take many steps to recreate this film scene. First, we had to rewrite the script, then create storyboards and study the scene's lighting, then decide who the actors would be, then find our location. We had to use the 180 degree technique (using three angles to make it look like the actors are facing and talking to each other) to shoot some of the dialogue.
Some successes we had are within the camera work, I feel we got very close to how the scene looked and felt. However, we could have had a better location with better audio free of other sounds, as we were in the school library and it was near impossible to avoid interruption.

A More and yet Less Decisive Theme
So, I've been trying to lock down completely on a focus of looking inwards and at the human experience. I've figured out that I love the aspect of people being able to relate to the characters and/or situations in my films, even if they're crazy. Basically, ordinary people in extraordinary situations. The hero versus whatever situation, but with emotion and relation.
One such example of this is the story of Spider-Man. Peter Parker is a normal guy, with a crazy amount of responsibility thrust upon him by... A bug bite (and yes, I know that spiders are arachnids. Bug bite sounds better). I've been looking at my relation to the character, and I've found many traits I share. I have the humor that Peter Parker uses on a daily basis, and whenever he's fighting the bad guys. I use that humor to always hide the feelings that are inside, like a mask. Peter uses his humor mask to hide both his feelings and his fear when facing down villains as Spider-Man.
Lately, I've been watching a lot of Friends, and I love the aspect of having a group of people that are different but all work together, and are always there for each other. This can also tie in with Spider-Man, and even my life. Friendship hasn't always been an easy thing for me, but the friends I do make are very close and seem like they'll last a long time.
There is a video game titled Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and in it, there is a Sith armada amassing. Your main character, one of the last of the Jedi Order, must find the rest of the Jedi and anyone else that will help in their battle to save the universe. In the game, everything you do influences your companions and followers and they will either love you or hate you, follow you or turn away from you. Most of the time, they will follow since everything you do is usually on the path of the light, which is very inspirational and shows people how they want to be, the good person. Their emotions are affected so strongly because you're so in tune with the force, and can create these force bonds, which are essentially emotional connections that are very easy to form. I feel like I've been easily able to make connections with people as if I had this force bond aspect even though it isn't a real thing.
This makes me think the best type of story for me is the story of the hero, whether he be alone or with others(although I prefer a group scenario), battling something internally or externally. A lot of people think of themselves as the hero of their own story, and that's the best type of relation I can find and speaks to me, and I know it speaks to many others the same way.

Lighting Video
Camera Work and Editing: Our silhouette shot could have used better movement, and editing went mostly well until we found parts we had to cut down extremely short and felt that it didn't entirely cut right.
Successes: I think we did most of this project well, except for the fact that we missed a few shots.
Recommendations: Plan all shots out, and get all shots done.

Themes in Art and Conceptual Film
The main thematic idea that interests me is looking inward and the human experience. The main thing behind this idea was the idea that while everyone has different beliefs, ideals, and experiences, everyone can also have the same feelings. The textbook states, "Yet they also have shared certain experiences, just by virtue of being human. We are all of us born, we pass through childhood, we mature into sexual beings, we search for love, we grow old, we die. We experience doubt and wonder, happiness and sorrow, loneliness and despair." This quote explicitly brings upon the idea that everyone can have some sort of ability to relate to what they are seeing in the medium they are using. The relation that is provided within will cause people to think, whether about their own life, or the lives of those around them, and how they can connect to one another. The next quote involves thinking, and wishing to speak. As it says, "Surely one of the most common of human wishes is to talk, if only we
could, if only for a moment, with someone who is no longer here. Many religions
embrace the idea that the dead form a vast spirit community capable of
helping us. Many rituals have been devised to honor ancestors and appease
their spirits. But all of the rituals in the world do not compensate for the ache
we sometimes feel when we wish we could speak to those who came before—
to tell them what we have become, to ask for guidance, to compare experiences,
to explain, to listen," there are those with similar experiences and also a lot more insight. Humans are always seeking insight and guidance from those that are wiser from their experiences. It can bring out the idea of unity, that we are all the same in the end, but also the idea of individuality, we're all unique and can have different experiences that make us who we are.

Sound Design Film
EQ, or equalizing, is to alter the frequency of sounds, and decibels are the unit of measurement for power and intensity, mostly in sound.

Rear Window Sound Design
In the film Rear Window by Alfred Hitchcock, the sound design was used to bring the film and its setting to life. The streets and civilians are hustling and bustling as a dog is digging up flower bed and Jeff is on the phone. The balance of the different noises that can be heard immerse the viewer into the film, which can increase the emotional investment into the film.

Audio Basics
The 0 dB sound file felt very loud and noisy, the audio had to be turned down for a better listening experience.
The -12 dB sound file was a bit low but was very clear, and felt perfect when it was made a bit louder.
The -40 dB sound file was incredibly quiet, even with the boosting of the audio.

Avant Garde Reflection
I think something successful we did were the shots of the flower and the shots of the art pieces. Something I would absolutely recommend is doing storyboarding and even filming a lot of extra shots which can add to the film and change the pacing and mood.
